Reading is Self-Care

There are so many great benefits to reading. Reading improves memory, reduces stress, builds self-esteem, and allows an individual to develop or improve skills. In fact, One 2009 study by Sussex University researchers showed that reading may reduce stress by as much as 68 percent. With so many different genres and topics, its impossible to not find something you enjoy reading. With fiction, non fiction, mystery, thriller, and romance, it's impossible to not find something you'd like. Libraries have such a wide array of books, including audio books, that you can always try a new genre for free!


We are trying to make reading a bit more of a common practice with our shelter clients, by beginning to implement book recommendations depending on the individual client needs.
