Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Uniting with survivors, raising awareness, and building change.
What is Domestic Violence?

Domestic violence (or intimate partner violence) is a pattern of behaviors used to exert power and control over a partner. It can include physical, sexual, emotional, economic, psychological, or technological abuse and coercion. Department of Justice

It affects people of all genders, ages, races, backgrounds, and orientations.

What is DVAM?

Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) is a national campaign throughout October where survivors, advocates, loved ones, and communities come together to elevate awareness, honor survivors, and promote prevention.

A Rising Need Nationwide

Domestic violence continues to affect millions across the U.S., and survivor programs face urgent challenges. National advocates, including the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), have raised alarms about increased demand for services at a time when funding is uncertain and need is rising. This year’s DVAM theme, “With Survivors, Always,” calls on all of us to center survivor voices and strengthen the systems that keep them safe.

The Need Here at Home

In FY25 (2024–2025), DASACC saw a 9.4% increase in survivors seeking services compared to the previous year:

1,901 survivors served

8,011 nights of safe housing provided

2,194 counseling sessions delivered

1,285 hotline calls answered

Each number represents families, children, and neighbors in Warren County who turned to DASACC for safety, healing, and hope.

Wear Purple Day: October 16

Each year on the third Thursday of October, communities nationwide take part in Wear Purple Day (also known as Purple Thursday) to show support for survivors of domestic violence.

Purple symbolizes courage, survival, peace, and hope — a visible reminder that no one should face abuse alone. By wearing purple, you join thousands of advocates, survivors, and supporters in raising awareness and sparking conversations about domestic violence.

Whether it’s a shirt, ribbon, or scarf, your purple makes a difference. Take a photo, share why you wear purple, and tag DASACC to help spread awareness across Warren County.
