Walking Side by Side, Caring for Our Companions, and Educating to End Violence

At the Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Crisis Center, we walk alongside survivors of violence as they navigate their journey toward healing and safety. Just as we strive to be unwavering companions for survivors, we recognize that pets play a similar role in all our lives, offering unconditional love and companionship.

Further, research shows abusers often have a pattern of violence towards all members of the household – including children and pets. 71% of women in domestic violence shelters report their abuser threatened, injured, or killed a pet (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence), and nearly half of victims stay with an abuser rather than leave their pet behind (Carlisle-Frank, Frank, & Nielsen, 2004. Pets as Pawns). DASACC is one of only a few agencies in the country that offers a pet-friendly shelter facility and kennel to ensure that survivors do not have to choose between their safety and their pets.

 

At DASACC Dog Walk, we aim to celebrate the unbreakable bond between people and their pets and to make a positive impact on those affected by abuse.

 

What to Expect:

  • Walking Side by Side: Join us for a scenic 1.5 mile walk through the park with fellow survivors, community members, and four-legged friends.

  • Caring For Our Companions: Enjoy a day filled with activities, special guests, and giveaways focused on the well-being of our pets.

  • Educating to End Violence: Engage with the DASACC team and our partners to learn about domestic violence and available services in our community.

Vendor Registration Form

Interested vendors should complete and submit a Vendor Registration Form. The deadline to submit this form has been extended to Friday, September 20, 2024.
